  • RO DBT works from the belief system that the core components of emotional well-being are:

    3. Communication of our emotions, recognizing that expressing emotion is crucial when forming close interpersonal bonds

    RO DBT aims to build:

    1. Flexible responding to the demands of the moment

    2. Authentic emotional expression to build positive interpersonal relationships

    3. Self enquiry into our usual responses

    4. Our ability to manage unexpected or challenging feedback

  • In a nutshell, DBT was created for people who struggle with undercontrol, while RO DBT was created of people who struggle with overcontrol. The hope is that these therapies provide people with the tools to find that middle ground. For a more detailed explanation, here is a handout!
